NO QUEBEC!!!!!

I feel as though this needs to be reiterated….DON’T BLOODY PRETEND YOU ARE TRYING TO HELP WOMEN BY BANNING FACE COVERINGS!!!! If you want women to show their face to access services fine…whatever…but to be able to work or to be in public buildings….really??? EPIC FAIL QUEBEC!!!

Here is my old blog again (this was in reaction to France):

Just have to put this out there…

Enough with the banning of the burqas…more with the empowering of women to make their own choices.

So here we go again with the banning of the burqa. It’s absolutely laughable that telling women how to dress is for the good of women. I can’t help but think of how women are told not to wear too little clothes and how it’s the exact same thing. Either way it’s telling a woman how to look. It’s always the same excuses for legislating how women dress too. “Women dress skimpy because society tells them that that is how they will ‘fit’ in”, “Women wear full coverings because of their repressive society in which they are told to cover up. “. Yes, these can both be true, but what about women who want to wear barely there clothes, or head to toe coverings? Why aren’t those choices considered empowering?

No doubt women are made to cover themselves when they don’t want to, or take off their clothes when they don’t want to, but banning and legislating clothing is anti-women and also repressive. Why aren’t all the feminists freaking out? I understand that many women are forced to cover up when they do not want to, but making EVERYONE remove their burqa is terribly ignorant. There are many women who choose this. Do we think that a law like this will magically liberate women (because we all know how well that worked in other countries!). We need to spend less time legislating women’s looks and more time empowering women. Women having an equal say in the household, women having equal access to education, women having good access to health care, women having equal rights under the law, having safe shelters for women fleeing violence, democratic media with fair coverage of the full spectrum of femininity/gender and the list can go on and on and on.

When women truly decide how they want to look then, and only then, that would be truly empowering.
